VISITING

ROCCO VERHAGE

Rocco lives in Zeeland, on the island of Walcheren. As a school boy he was in the same classroom with the son of Han van Doorn, and that is how he was introduced to the exhibition of fancy pigeons. Van Doorn senior was at that time already a wellknown breeder of the Show Homer and Italian Owl. Rocco was fascinated by these breeds.

CHICKEN RUN

Dutch Bantams at

Team de Vries

Dutch Bantam Club chairman, Henk Kasperts and Dirk de Jong visited Saskia and Peter de Vries in Vierpolders in South Holland. They found special people with energy and knowledge and were impressed by their quiet serenity.

HOW TO: HANDFEEDING

BABY PIGEONS?

There are many pigeon breeds. In Europe the diversity of varieties and colours is already huge. Many different pigeon breeds have their origins in Germany, most German creations are Colour Pigeons.

HENRY FINES AND THE

MARANS BANTAM

In December 1993 the writer received a letter from Dirk de Jong, asking if he could help him with information about the creation of the Marans Bantam. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding and there was no follow up. Aviculture Europe offered to publish the Henry Fines story to ‘put the record straight.’

THE 2016 NAWADER GOLD

SHOW, OMAN

We thought the quality was very high and the top birds in each class could hold their own anywhere in the world. Overall it was an excellent show that was well organised and extremely well run by a host of conscientious people that should be proud of what they achieved.

TALES OF TAILS

You have tails and tails. Just picture peacocks and pheasants. Some tails are very short, some are flat, some are wide, others long as in the magpie. Sometimes they are brightly coloured and other times they just don’t attract any attention. Yet they very often have a clear function.

NEW COLOURS

Transferring an existing colour to another breed is exciting, but 'creating' something that never before existed is even more exciting! But do we really need all those new colours?

CONCERNING POULTRY

preventing and treating

coccidiosis and

necrotic enteritis

Coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis are important diseases that affect intestinal health in poultry worldwide. Although both diseases have a different pathology, they act synergistically because the development of necrotic enteritis is highly dependent on the intestinal damage caused by coccidiosis.

FRIENDS of the ENGLISH

GAME FOWL BREEDS

First appearing in 1997, for almost 20 years, the ‘Mirror of the Fancy’ offered fanciers an opportunity to show the public the results of their experimental breeding, as an example of a hobby without unnecessary barriers in which each and everyone could strut their stuff.
