THE CATALONIAN

TUMBLER

Talking about the Catalonian Tumbler (basically the name “Catalonian Flying Pigeon” would be more appropriate) means talking about a breed of Oriental origin that was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula via the Mediterranean in the 14th century.

This is the third and last article of a trilogy on the breeds of the BKU-Club, a specialty club for Brabanter, Breda Fowl and Dutch Owlbeards. At present only a few fanciers are interested in this beautiful breed and there are only a few active breeders.

CHICKENS IN ARUBA including an interview with some fighting cock breeders

This article is based on interviews with Roly Sint Jago and Maritza and Roque Tromp. These people from Aruba are no chicken fanciers at all, but they have done their utmost to describe the poultry situation to us in Aruba. The interviewed members of the Quandt family are real chicken breeders.

THE ANNABERGER

CRESTED FRIZZLE BANTAM

As a breeder of Appenzeller Fowls I have always had an interest in the Annaberger Frizzled Fowl, locally (in Germany) known as Annaberger Hauben struphuhn. A few times I saw them at European Shows. In my view, this breed looks like an Appenzeller with frizzled feathers.

THE FLEMISH CUCKOO

Part 1

A report on my long search for the origins of the Cuckoo chickens and in particular the Flemish Cuckoo.  Is the old type of the Malines cuckoo (thus the Flemish cuckoo) the same as the Scotch Grey, as is written in ancient magazines from 1887 and 1889 ?
