VISITING OUR ENGLISH PIGEON FRIENDS

Our group is a combination of pigeon fanciers from Belgium and the Netherlands, all are members of a circle of Belgian and Dutch pigeon fanciers with the most diverse varieties of breeds. Regularly we travel to breeders, pigeon fairs and exhibitions at home and abroad, crisscrossing Western Europe.

CHICKEN RUN

Breda Fowl

at Rolf de Ruiter’s

If you know Rolf, you know that the Breda Fowl was love at first sight. However, this was not the chicken breed that he started with. In 1976, when he started keeping chickens, he did not even know Breda Fowl existed! So his first birds were Dutch Bantams. A few years later, when he looked for other chickens, he saw the Breda Fowl for the first time.

THE BREDA FOWL

and BREDA BANTAM

Part 2 of the triptych on the  BKU breeds. The Breda Fowl is one of the oldest Dutch breeds. As far is the type is concerned, it is a very striking bird. This is caused by the leg- and foot feathering, but above all by the absence of a comb and other head ornaments.

An impression of the VDT Show, the German National Championship 2014. The largest Pigeon Show in Europe: 18,843 cages with a wonderful variety of pigeons. Mick hereby presents his choice, not always the ‘winning’ birds, but in particular the pigeons that impressed him.

CONCERNING POULTRY

~ Curled Toes ~

It’s always a disappointment when chicks hatch in the incubator and some appear with curled toes. If you are experiencing this for the first time you will wonder why this happened. If the eggs came from another breeder, he will quickly get the blame, while he in his turn will say that it must have been the incubator.…

THE PIGEON MAIL,

1000 YEARS AGO

A few years ago, travelling through the Middle East and Egypt, I was very interested in pigeon breeding of that region. Among other things, I was listening to interesting stories and legends about pigeon breeding from past times.

BASSETTES

~ COLOUR BREEDING ~

In our former issue (February) we explained that when breeding the Bassettes, you have a choice of a great number of colour varieties.  We divided the colours in 4 groups + the Whites. Let’s suppose you will opt for Group 1, the Gold varieties. What should your Bassettes look like and what colour combinations are possible?
