his breed: The Lille Pouter

In 1990, I switched to a breed that was hardly kept by anyone at that time, the Lille Pouter and I still keep these. It is a breed which is very good to keep; the pigeons are quiet and can be kept in an aviary. It is also a breed that is very well suited for free flying.

To me, the slow decline of participation of the Lille Pouter in the shows, is very disappointing. However, the same happens with other clubs. The fanciers are aging, me too, thereby we ascertain a decline in new members. That is the trend of the moment. I hope this call will change that.

Rosecomb Bantams at

Adri Hermsen’s

When Adri Hermsen went to the European Show 2012 in Leipzig, Germany, she promised to take some photos for us. Among the photos we saw one of their own Rosecomb bantams which was awarded 97 points there. At the Noord Show, another one of their bantams was awarded 97 points. All the more reason to ask Adri for some of her ‘breeding secrets’.

75 Year’s Jubilee of

the German Specialty club

for Starling Pigeons

During the 27th European show the Starling Pigeon Club celebrated its 75^th anniversary. The political separation time between East and West had no impact on the Starling breeding. But after the unification many new friendships were created, which can only benefit the breed. Of the 54 recognized colours, about 30 colours were present at this show.

NORTH HOLLAND BLUE

Although the official name of this breed is ‘North Holland Fowl’, most breeders - and even the Speciality Club - stick to the original name North Holland Blue. It is the only meat type breed of Dutch origin, created at the beginning of the 20th century by farmers and workmen in the Zaan district and Waterland re-gion.

CONCERNING POULTRY

~ Breeding Galliformes ~

Some gallinaceous birds, such as turkeys, quail, grouse, peafowl, pheasant and jungle fowl, breed readily in capti-vity while others rarely reproduce. Breeding failures are an indication that the birds are not happy or healthy, and that the natural conditions of the bird are not being sufficiently simulated.

We did already present you drop by drop with photos and links to photo albums of this impressive show, where nearly 100,000 animals had been entered. Now here is a series of pigeon photos taken by our 'own' photographers, Dick Hamer and Mick Bassett. Next month we will close the subject with a photo report of the poultry.
