THE BARRED

PLYMOUTH ROCK

For over thirty years I now accompanied the fortunes of this Breed in Germany right from the beginning the beauty of this breed held me under its spell which has lasted to this date. At present time, my main concern is the maintenance and improvement of the Breed to preserve it for the next Generation.

WITH CALMNESS

TO SUCCESS !

With a maximum size of 20 cm, fig-parrots are among the smaller species within the Order Psittaciformes. During the 2012 breeding season the the Orangebreasted and Double-eyed Fig-parrots successfully parent-reared their young. Germany-wide, both species can only be seen in Weltvogelpark Walsrode.

VISITING

Denise Moss and

Rinke Berkenbosch

in the south-west of Wales

During this year’s summer holidays in England and Wales we spent a few days with Rinke and Denise. About eight years ago Rinke migrated from Holland to Wales. Here they have approximately 4 hectares for their 400 geese and 100 ducks.

THe Canaria Cropper

The Canary Cropper is one of the Spanish or Iberian Cropper groups, which unlike the other Cropper breeds, have a different history. They didn’t come to Europe from the Orient, but from South America. This is not surprising since the whole of South America was discovered and colonised by Spaniards and Portuguese.

THE DELAWARE CHICKEN

The Delaware is a delightful choice for a backyard flock in that they are good foragers, cold hardy, yet can withstand heat, and are usually a very personable and calm bird, often being friendly enough to sit on your lap or ride on your shoulder. The hens are good layers of a large light brown egg.

René Diels from Tielen (Belgium) has had the Dutch Helmet in his loft for over forty years. Looking for other birds to improve his line of Helmet Pigeons he visited Henk de Vos in Schoonhoven (NL), another great lover of the Dutch Helmet. Because working together is really a good way to progress.

THE LIÈGE GAME

In this article I will describe the past and present of the Liège Game; one of the finest Belgian Game breeds - very hard to breed and no longer as valued as they should be. Ignorance, powerlessness and willfulness play major roles and are main causes of the demise of one of our national game fowl breeds and living heritage.

PROMISING ANIMALS

Year after year, each smallholder’s association in the Netherlands organizes a young animal judging. This year, Pels & Pluim in Mills (NL) decided to seek new ways. The number of entered animals was more than adequate, but the number of fans and audience was more than expected and - even more importantly - everyone thought it was a very nice event.
