Mick Bassett went for a visit to Michael Victor, who lives on the outskirts of Riedlingen (Germany) and keeps Uzbek Tumblers and Tajikistan Tumblers  (‘Tadschikistan’ in German) in various colours, and also Agaran Tumblers. The Tajiki and the Agaran are used as fosters for the short beak Uzbeks.

BUFF LEGHORNS

A SPECIALTY OF

FORTY YEARS

In the early years (1890-1910) of the Buff Leghorn variety, interest was so strong in developing a good buff colored Leghorn, amazing strides were made in a short time period. Poultry shows cooped large Buff Leghorn classes of sometimes 200. Monmouth Farm won 5 times in a row (1909-1913) “Best Pen at MSG” on Buff Leghorns. I got my start in Buff Leghorns from Marcus Davidson’s stock. I asked Marcus where he got his start from in Buff Leghorns and he told me Monmouth Farm in 1912. That is now 100 years ago.

NATURAL HERITAGE

of TUNISIA

- the representative

pigeon breeds -

A few years back, on a French exhibition, I saw a poster with the above title, showing four original Tunisian pigeon breeds, which were so very interesting to me that I lost myself in exploring their history and I willingly share the gained information with you.

A Brief History of the

Swan Goose

under Domestication

in the West  -  Part 3

The following article is the last of three parts. The writer respectfully hopes this review of the documentary evidence pertaining to the two forms of Asiatic Geese – the Chinese and the African – will go some way in presenting the true facts surrounding the mystery of their entry into European and American poultry culture.

BREEDS OF THE

GRASSY DOWNS

The South Downs have a long history; there are archaeological remains from Neolithic times. Until the middle of the 20th century, sheep-rearing was the main occupation of those living on the Downs. Several poultry and waterfowl breeds originated here, and even a pigeon breed.

CONCERNING POULTRY

- Chicken aids -

Cor Tensen, a Dutch Barnevelder breeder: “I had never heard of Chicken Anemia Virus or CAV in 2010. Unfortunately my knowledge is now up to date. For other breeders, to avoid a disastrous breeding season, I sound the alarm”.

Black Castellana

and GANECA

The Black Castellana is one of our most famous chicken breeds. This ancient Spanish breed is known not only in Spain but in all Europe, having fanciers in England, Austria and Germany, among others. By means of this article, the members of GANECA want to share their interest and knowledge with anyone who wants to learn more about the breed, raise their chickens and promote it in contests and exhibitions.
