BULGARian

Poultry breeds

Poultry breeding has always been very important for Bulgaria. In 1967 Bulgaria was the third exporter of bird products after Holland and Poland. During this period some of the main highly productive Bulgarian livestock breeds were created, such as Starozagorska red chicken and was started improving the Black Shumen chicken and White Benkovski goose.

RESULT OF THE 1st

VIRTUAL FANCY PIGEON

CHAMPIONSHIP

We can't help but be impressed by the unprecedented success of the Virtual Championship! We never expected a number of 5461 enthusiastic visitors to vote for their favourite pigeon. We were also pleasantly surprised with the 36 participating photos sent to us by fanciers that had competed with their birds at the 2011 Champion Show - in a picture quality that certainly did not disappoint us!

EASTER EGGS IN THE

WELTVOGELPARK

in Walsrode(D)

Tinamoes look a little bit like dull chickens, but the structure of tinamou eggs is truly stunning; effectively there is nothing else like it in the avian world. The colour varies from species to species from chocolate brown over emerald green to turquoise blue. In common is the smooth surface; they almost look glazed.

CONCERNING POULTRY

- The Henhouse -

Before purchasing your chickens or chicks, you need a henhouse or coop. And if your chickens are not allowed out in the garden, you also need a run. Many Chicken Coop Designs and tips on building a chicken coop can be found on the internet. Even so, we would like to give you some important Tips on building a chicken house, because  successful chicken keeping (management) mostly depends on their housing.

Isabel

in Steiger croppers

These experiences on breeding the Isabel colour variety in Steiger Croppers were already published in the year 2000, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Dutch Steiger Cropper Club. Still the subject is very topical, as this colour variety is one of the most challenging of the breed, although when the breeder lacks knowledge, the risk of disappointment is very high.

A Brief History of the

Swan Goose

under Domestication

in the West

The Rev. E.S. Dixon was well aware of the tangle of information regarding domesticated Asiatic Geese when he wrote in 1848: “Confusion, therefore, and perplexity are the certain lot of whosoever attempts to trace this bird in our books of natural history.” How true; and ensuing writers on poultry helped to confuse the situation even further. However, to start at the very beginning, it has been recently been established that the wild Swan Goose existed some 360,000 years ago.
